Well, after not fishing through the heat of the summer and all the bad weather and flooding I finally made it back out onto the river. Chub and I spent about three hours moving from spot to spot looking for catfish. Admitedly we should have spent less time in each spot and moved even more than we did but it was still a good day. As the story goes the best fish of the day got away when he was only feet from the back of the boat. Although we tried liver, sunfish, nightcrawler and stink bait only the stink bait put fish in the boat. The big surprise was that I was really rusty when it came to casting and manuvering the boat. Remember it had been a while. It felt good just being out on the water. We only saw two other boats and a couple guys fishing off the dam. As does happen after each flood a new tree was stuck and submerged in the middle of the river and yes we hit it. Luckily we were just putting from spot to spot, no harm done unless you want to count Chub's heart attack.

I'm still in my prep time

Labor day weekend is over and it seems like the temps are beginning to drop a little. Didn't bother fishing over the weekend with the water high and muddy. Heard that some guys just started catching a few small ones and then the water came up. Looking forward to next weekend and putting the boat in the water. Who knows? Maybe next weekend I can catch a cat or two. I did spend some time in the garage putting new line on a few reels and cleaning up my gear. When I' not fishing I'm usually dinking around in the garage or the shed.

Make sure you are eligible for the Garcia reel in December. If you know of someone who isn't eligible, spread the word. If they don't want the reel maybe they will give it to you. If you don't want it, hell, I'll take it!
