Time well spent

Another weekend, more rain and thunderstorms. Earlier this week I recieved the latest issue of In-Fisherman and I can honestly say I'm ready to fish again. Now we just need a little cooperation from mother nature. During the storm that blew through this morning I finished a bait trap that I started last night. I started the season with five bait traps but lost a couple to the flash flooding that resulted from all the rain. I had to start rebuilding the inventory.

Hot!

Ok, I have come to the conclusion that I am a fair weather fisherman. I am anxiously waiting for the temps to start dropping off before so it will be a little more comfortable to be out on the water. The other day it was 98 outside according to the neighborhood bank sign while the thermostat in my house read a very comfortable 72. A simple decision for me. If you have braved the heat and caught a catfish or two, let us know.

Blue skies and high water

The good news is that the black cloud that has been circling my neck of the woods this week is gone. The bad news is that the Skunk is still out of its banks in places. There were a few people giving it a whirl down at Oakland but there wasn't any fish being brought in. I was hoping to see a few fish to confirm that they did come back up river. Maybe I'll have to watch a video to see what a catfish looks like.

Out of her banks, again

Well, let me see. How many times has the ol Skunk River been out it's banks this year? Personally, I've lost count. Doesn't matter. Rivers up and I'm thinking there might be a bunch of catfish down at Oakland over the weekend. Might have to give it try. Checked it out tonight but there wasn't a soul down there.

Signs of life

I took a drive down to the river just to have something to do and to get out of the house for a while. By chance I happened to be driving by as a regular at Oakland Mills landed a 2 or 3 pound channel cat. It must have been the first fish he caught because he had to go to his truck to get a bucket. I couldn't see what he was using for bait . I was just a little excited to see somebody catch something. It has been close to a month since I caught a fish. It seems like it has been a month anyway. I am hoping things are going to settle down now but if I was a betting man I wouldn't put any money on it. Stay safe. Roy

THE 4TH

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYBODY! Its the 4th of July. Visited the Skunk this morning and as I suspected there isn't much going on. I ran into Terry. He did say he tried the Iowa last week and there wasn't much going on there either. It's that time of year. The fish are there but they are scattered all over and a little more difficult to find. The nightcrawlers I bought to catch bait with are still on ice. The thought was there but I haven't been able to bring myself to act on it yet. Who knows? Maybe I won't.

Take care and be safe. Check out sliprig.com!

?

I spent the morning tackling some of the things on my to do list. I'm not to worried about getting it all done because somebody will give me more to do I'm sure. It has probably been a couple weeks since I last fished so I am wondering if anybody has been out there and doing any good. The few people I have seen around Oakland Mills haven't been doing much. I'm guessing most of the fish have moved back down river. It has crossed my mind to give it a try this week end but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Let me know if you make it out and have any luck.
